Why I’m Running

I believe deeply in public service. Throughout my career—in business, education, coaching, and community leadership—I've seen what can happen when people listen to one another, work together, and stay focused on solving problems.

I've also been disappointed to see too many lawmakers become more focused on political ideology than on the people they were elected to serve. Too often, the conversations that matter most to local families get pushed aside.

Meanwhile, Granite Staters are being asked to shoulder more of the burden while too many policies benefit powerful interests instead of strengthening our communities. We need leadership that puts people first, protects what makes New Hampshire special, and focuses on practical solutions that improve everyday life.

I'm running because I believe District 6 deserves a representative who will listen, work across differences, and never lose sight of who sent them to Concord. I'll always be accessible, thoughtful, and committed to doing what's best for Wolfeboro and Tuftonboro—not what's best for politics.

Together, we can strengthen our public schools, support local businesses, protect our lakes and forests, make New Hampshire more affordable for working families, and preserve the qualities that make our communities such wonderful places to live.

  • Deirdre McEachern is running for the New Hampshire House of Representatives in Carroll County, District 6, which includes Wolfeboro and Tuftonboro. 

  •  Deirdre is running because she believes Wolfeboro and Tuftonboro deserve a representative who listens, brings practical solutions and works constructively on local concerns. Deirdre is fighting for strong schools, affordable communities, expanded childcare programs, accessible healthcare, protected natural resources like our lakes, and responsive leadership that puts the people of her district first. 

  •  Deirdre brings more than 25 years of New Hampshire entrepreneurship, extensive educational experience as a pre-K through grade 8 Head of School, advanced training in conflict resolution, and a long history of community service. She would put those skills to work listening to constituents, evaluating legislation, and creating practical solutions. 

  •  Deirdre is an active member of the Wolfeboro/Tuftonboro Lions Club, serves on the Wolfeboro Festival of Trees Committee, and volunteers on the Development Committee of the Wentworth Watershed Association. She is also an avid reader and loves the LRNC Book Club! Deirdre is active in her faith community and serves on the Board of Directors for the Star Island Corporation jointly owned by the UUA and UCC churches. During the campaign, she has spent time meeting residents, visiting local businesses, attending community events, and listening to people throughout Wolfeboro and Tuftonboro. 

  •  Deirdre is the Democratic Candidate for State Representative in Carroll District 6. She is committed to representing the people of Wolfeboro and Tuftonboro, including residents who belong to another party or no party at all. Her decisions will be guided by the needs of the district, the facts before the legislature, and the effect a proposal would have on local residents. 

  • Deirdre will evaluate legislation on its merits and consider how it would affect Wolfeboro, Tuftonboro, and New Hampshire as a whole. She will listen to residents and explain her votes.

  • Deirdre is running to protect strong public schools while easing the burden on local property taxpayers. She supports locally driven housing solutions for workers, families, and seniors, while preserving local control. She is also focused on protecting the district’s lakes, land, and rural character and strengthening local businesses and essential infrastructure. 

  • Deirdre believes strong public schools are essential to strong communities. She supports giving educators the resources they need, strengthening partnerships between families and schools, and keeping the focus on effective teaching and student outcomes. She also believes the state must meet its constitutional responsibility for education so local property taxpayers do not carry an unfair share of the cost.   • Deirdre would address affordability by pushing the state to stop reneging on its obligations and fund its responsibilities to schools and towns, easing pressure on local property taxpayers. She opposes a broad-based sales or income tax. She supports locally driven housing solutions that help workers, families, and seniors afford to remain in Wolfeboro and Tuftonboro. She also supports energy programs to focus on renewable energy and reduce expensive fossil fuel dependence for residents

She believes communities can create more housing while respecting property rights, using existing infrastructure wisely, and keeping important land-use decisions in local hands.
